About the Breed
Origin and History
The Cavapoo (Cavoodle) is a popular designer dog (doodle) created by crossing the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel with the Poodle. The goal was to combine the Cavalier's affectionate nature with the Poodle's intelligence and low-shedding coat. As a crossbreed, its traits can vary from one dog to another.
Appearance and Coat
It has a small, cute and well-balanced body. Its coat is usually soft, wavy or curly and sheds little; it comes in a variety of colors. It needs regular grooming and clipping.
Temperament and Personality
The Cavapoo is extremely affectionate, sociable and people-oriented. It combines the Cavalier's gentleness with the Poodle's intelligence and gets along very well with children and other animals. Playful, adaptable and trainable, it does not like being left alone.
Care, Exercise and Training
Its soft coat needs regular brushing and periodic clipping to prevent matting; it sheds little. Moderate exercise is enough. It is intelligent and eager to please, and responds well to reward-based training.
Health
As a crossbreed, it may carry the predispositions of its parent breeds: from the Cavalier, mitral valve disease (MVD), which affects the heart, and syringomyelia, as well as patellar luxation and eye problems. Puppies from health-screened parents should be preferred. The Cavapoo suits families looking for an affectionate, sociable and low-shedding companion.
PatiBase tip: Keep all vaccines, check-ups and treatment history in a digital health record, and track vet appointments with reminders in the app.
