About the Breed
Origin and History
The Indian Mudhol (Mudhol Hound / Caravan Hound) is a noble sighthound bred in the Karnataka region of India for hunting and guarding. Known for its speed and stamina, it also serves in the Indian Army and security units.
Appearance and Coat
It has a large, slender, long-legged and deep-chested athletic body. Its very short, fine coat sheds very little; it comes in a variety of colors and is extremely easy to care for.
Temperament and Personality
The Mudhol Hound is loyal, independent and devoted to a single family. It is wary of strangers and affectionate with its family. Fast, agile and with a strong prey drive, it shows the reserved yet attached character typical of sighthounds.
Care, Exercise and Training
Its short coat requires almost no grooming. It needs a lot of exercise and off-leash running; because of its strong prey drive, a safe, fenced area is important. Its independent nature calls for patient, reward-based training.
Health
Having developed under natural conditions, it is an extremely hardy and healthy breed with no known serious breed-specific hereditary disease. Like other sighthounds, it may be sensitive to anesthesia. The Mudhol Hound suits owners looking for a fast, loyal and hardy dog who can provide a safe running area.
PatiBase tip: Keep all vaccines, check-ups and treatment history in a digital health record, and track vet appointments with reminders in the app.
