The Irish Setter is extremely friendly, energetic and cheerful. It is very people-oriented and gets along excellently with children and other animals; it is not prone to aggression. Exuberant and playful, it matures late and stays puppyish for a long time. It has very high energy.

Care, Exercise and Training

Its silky coat requires regular brushing. It needs a great deal of exercise. Intelligent but exuberant and easily distracted, it requires patient, reward-based and consistent training.

Health

Hip dysplasia, progressive retinal atrophy (PRA, DNA test available), gastric torsion (GDV), CLAD (an immune disorder, DNA test available) and epilepsy may occur. Responsible breeding is recommended.
